My Life Story
I started gravitating toward cameras when I was only four years old. My mother had a 35mm film camera she would let me “play with.” I took hundreds of shots that my parents were kind enough to pay for and have developed. By age eight, I had taken over my father’s retired Hi-8 camera. I would shoot mock web series with my sister, stop-motion of Legos, pretend fashion shows, an of course films. At 12 years old, I would not be caught without a camera of some sort. I recall one trip to Arizona in which I took over 8,000 photos.
Upon entering high school, I quickly excelled in my filmmaking class. I bought my first HD camera and my father taught me how to edit in Avid. I had the technical process dialed in but I still a lot to learn about life. My teacher Christopher Brogan recognized my potential and took me on as an apprentice. He taught me about art, logistics, workplace hierarchy, negotiation, and most importantly, communication. My high school also had a daily broadcast that I was able to use as an outlet for my work. I started making a commercial every other week and by the time I graduated I had made over 100 videos.
I attended film school at Emerson College in Boston. I focused my attention on learning the ins and outs of the professional grade equipment I had access to. I enjoyed assisting my peers with the technical details of cameras and eventually fell into the roll of “1st AC.” When I was still a sophomore, a bunch of my friends got together to make a feature and I of course volunteered to pull focus. It was an action movie shot entirely on the Movi Pro with CN-E primes wide open at a T1.5. That experience solidified my interest in becoming a focus puller.
Right out of college I bought a Tilta Nucles-M, and started offering my services as an AC. I started buy more gear and taking on larger jobs with larger rates. My drive to be creative crept up on me, and I started making independent shorts. The one that stands out is called, “DEEP COVER” which is a buddy cop film currently in post production. Production on “DEEP COVER” has spanned across 29 days and cost over $30,000.
I intend on pulling focus for as long as I can. My current goal is to save up enough money to become an independent producer. I really enjoy building a production from the ground up and connecting creatives with the resources they need to create something special!
